Math-Free Paleo

I love math. Math is cool. But math and eating don't go together. Whenever I've tried to mix math and eating, I've felt like eating lost its charm. I much prefer math-free Paleo.

Have you ever

  • calculated macronutrients in an effort to get into the Zone?
  • tried to decipher the fat or carbohydrate grams on a food label?
  • wondered how long you'd have to spend on the treadmill to burn off a piece of cheesecake?
  • consulted the Glycemic Index?
  • been fooled by "calories per serving size" (you mean there's eight servings in this?)
  • wondered which weighed more, a pound of marshmallows or a pound of spinach?

You don't have to do any calculations when eating Paleo. By eating real food that doesn't come in packages, life gets a lot easier. Grams, calories and the glycemic index become irrelevant. I do believe The Zone exists and feels really good. The science behind it is brilliant. But you don't need to calculate macronutrients to get there. Unless you're a competitive athlete, weighing and measuring your food isn't necessary and can easily lead to food obsessions. I experience the zone most days just by eating the Paleo foods that are calling out to me. Some days I feel like eating salad with a lot of protein, some days I want FAT and other days I need some fruit. I always eat what I want as long as it's Paleo food. No math necessary.

This will work for you too.

If you really want that piece of cheesecake, go for it (occasionally). A little dessert, especially if it's lower in sugar, won't hurt much and trying to figure out how long it will take to burn off will only depress you. Don't worry about the calories.

Math-free Paleo makes life so much easier; there's no need to mix dinner with equations. Eat mostly Paleo foods (meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit and nuts) and you can save your math skills for helping your kids with their homework.

Can I just have the roast chicken?
