If you have 20 seconds you have enough time to jump-start a new habit and take meaningful action.
The key is focus.
To get lean, focus on eating Paleo, getting strong, and sleeping more.
Go into your kitchen and toss everything that can be filed under "Junk Food."
Does it contain high-fructose corn syrup? It's out.
How about trans-fats? Garbage.
Does it come in a package with the words "low-fat," "whole wheat," or "soy" prominently featured? It's outta here.
Would your grandma recognize it? If not, think twice about eating it.
Throw away the fake food in your kitchen and you'll be well on your way to eating Paleo, in just 20 seconds.
If you have another 20 seconds available, write a quick grocery list that looks something like this: chicken, shrimp, bacon, broccoli, salad greens, avocado, eggs, walnuts, almonds, apples, etc.
Drop down into a high plank position. Get into the best form you can possibly muster. Imagine you are going to do one perfect pushup, but don't. Shift your gaze slightly in front of your hands to lengthen your spine. Now freeze. Hold that position.
Inhale and exhale while counting to 20.
As an added bonus, top off your 20-second strength routine with 5 slow-motion push-ups.
Use your alarm to go to bed
Here's my latest trick to get myself into bed on time, which is not an easy task. Give it a try.
Go into your bedroom and set the alarm for one hour before you want to be in bed. When the alarm goes off, you know it's time to unplug, tidy up, brush your teeth, kiss your family good-night, do a little reading, etc.
One hour after the alarm goes off, your head should be on the pillow and your eyes closed. Over time, getting to bed earlier will become a habit. Just be sure to re-set your alarm if you need it in the morning.
Sleeping more will make you leaner, happier and even more gorgeous than you already are.
It's amazing what you can accomplish in 20 seconds and there are no limits. You could do a static squat against the wall for 20 seconds, or hydrate for 20 seconds, or spend 20 seconds with your eyes closed, taking deep breaths (to reduce stress and cortisol levels).
Use your imagination and you'll come up with a whole list of things you can do quickly and easily to become a leaner person.
